Athens food festival

Last weekend, Athinorama, a greek entertainment magazine and the Municipality of Athens, co-organized the first greek food festival at Technopolis Gazi in the city center. Technopolis Gazi is an industrial museum and a major cultural venue, a former gasworks factory where, since 1999, cultural events take place (see more here).

From Friday 12/4 to Sunday 14/4, producers from all over Greece were given the chance to present their  products to the public and be there in person to discuss about the ingredients, the processes and the reasons that make their products unique. So there was plenty of food and wine from all over the country, from traditional greek products (olive oil, bottarga, cheese, rusks, etc.) to products that have become popular in our diet in the past few years (truffle oil, prosciutto, etc.). We tried everything and loved it all!

The 3 day festival included numerous events where people were given the chance to participate in cooking classes and wine and food tasting lessons. And the best part? Four awarded greek restaurant from all over the country, offered three different dishes each, for 2 euro per portion!  Amazing mouthwatering food!

Among others, I bought a lemon marmalade (to be used with red meat soon!), white truffle olive oil (can’t get enough) and bottarga (avgotaraho), a unique PDO product with an amazing taste and nutritional value, see more here.
